Gabriela's destiny

I think that for everybody is hard to find what does the rest of their life, specially when many people can suggest what you could do. Gabriela Segura had got it, but the destiny impide her... well, really, her parents did. She thought to be a great actress, her plans were study drama in the university, but her parents wouldn't let her.
There are many persons that happens for this. In this country, where you must have a lot of money to be able to pay the university, many times you didn't take decisions like this. If you haven't got a job or money for to pay, you are bound to accept that your parents says.
For Gabriela, it was difficult, 'cause she had to travel to Santiago to be able to study. Also, she had to pay a dept. to live here. Finally, Gabriela didn't study for be an actress, she study journalism. For those things of destiny, Gabriela lives with a girl who studies drama, and thanks to that, she discovered that it wasn't for her 'cause she's a lazy girl, and if you study for being an actor/actress, you must be very vigorous.

Now, she's happy studying journalims, although she's not sure if she will be a journalist.

Anarchy in the TV

I'm gonna write about a man who really inspire me: Tony Wilson.
He was a english journalist that impulsed one of the most interesting music and cultural scene from England in the 70's and 80's. He worked in some TV programs, in "Granada TV" and "BBC", showing bands that he knew/discovered.
Wilson -and his friend Alan Erasmus-, after meeting some musicians from Manchester, founded an independent record label called "Factory Records". He achieved that bands like Joy Division and Happy Mondays obtained too much succes and sales with their discs.
Later, he created a nightclub in Manchester called "The Haçienda", that became the most famous club in the place when the music scene denominated "Madchester" started to emerge.
He had a TV show (and this conect him with my field, Cinema and TV) called "So it goes" This program showed performances of many bands and artist, that it was really important in that moment. In the last episode, in the first season of the program, it was the debut TV appearance of the Sex Pistols, where they played the song "Anarchy in the UK"

"Get of your arse"

He died in 2007, but he will remain a legend. I admire him for all his work; he was really a visionary.

Big brother is watching you

I'm going to tell you about a great book. It's "1984", a dystopian novel by George Orwell published in 1949.
This is a complex story about a totalitarian society, monitored for the Big Brother. It tells how Winston Smith, the protagonist, secretly hates The Party "Insog" that have got total control of his life -and everyone's life- and dreams of rebellion against Big Brother. He works for the Ministry of Truth, when he's responsable of the historical revisionism; there is where he meets Julia, who will have secretly romance with him, hidden from The Party.

I always remember the three sentences that The party uses as slogan:
  • War is peace
  • Freedom is slavery
  • Ignorance is strength

Finally,"1984", "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury and "Brave new world" by Aldous Huxley are the most important dystopian novel of the history.

I like "1984" 'cause I think that many of the ideas of this book reflect what happens in our society, and -like the book- we can't escape from this.

Here is a review of the book on Amazon:
5.0 out of 5 stars Best Dystopian Novel Ever!, May 16, 2012

-This is a review from: NineteenEighty-Four (Paperback)
In accordance with the dystopian theme of this book, it should be required reading. 1984 is my all time favorite book. The characters are powerful and the plot is disturbingly reflective of some of the challenges we face today. The entire text is littered with powerful messages such as; "war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength". Orwell creates a world in 1984 that speaks to us all on a visceral level. Peering into a possible future reminding us that the road to dystopia is long and paved with good intentions. Orwell is a literary genius. If I could convince someone to read only one book it would be this one. The themes expressed compel you to reflect on our own world and contemplate our own future. Please read this book you will not be disappointed! If you read it and want more I'd suggest Brave New World by A. Huxley as well. My 2nd all time favorite.
